1. ASSET LIBRARY
Introducing our new digital Asset Library! You’ll find photos, social shareables, email banners, logos, and other digital assets in this new searchable database. And, in each candidate folder, you’ll find space to upload your own media to share with other teams.
2. FIRST WEEKEND OF ACTION – JULY 24-26
Our first Weekend of Action coincides with 100 days until Election Day! If you already have a recurring phonebank planned for that weekend, or if you want to schedule a special phonebank, we suggest making phone calls to invite volunteers.
We also recommend sending a special email to help with promotion. We’ve created a WoA Phonebank MailChimp template. Just login, then click to add to the template your account, customize, and send! And don’t miss our WoA Guide with the full schedule, suggested messaging, templates, and social shares.
New this year, Sister District staff will be holding national phonebanks for two rotating candidates on the Sunday of each WoA. The purpose is to: (a) provide an opportunity to volunteers who live in areas without teams, and (b) encourage interested volunteers to join their nearest Sister District team recurring phonebank.
RSVP for WoA National Phonebanks: July 26, August 16, September 20, October 4, November 1. Training at 1:30pm PT / 3:30pm CT / 4:30pm ET. After training, we’ll make calls for 90 minutes.
3. RESOURCE LIBRARY REMINDER & HQL UPDATE ARCHIVES
Have you checked out the new and improved Resource Library? The library is your go-to index for organizing, fundraising, field, and more! We’ve updated the layout and content so you can find what you need more easily, and we’ve also added more content and case studies! See something missing? Let your Organizing staffer know.
PLUS! Past issues of the HQL Update, starting in June, are now available in the Resource Library → Organizing → HQL Update Archives. Today’s issue will be posted later today.
4. HELLO, RECURRING PHONEBANKS!
Okay, we are truly impressed. We have 15 weekly phonebanks, 10 twice-monthly phonebanks and still counting! Check out this list of recurring phonebanks hosted by Sister District teams and affiliates. Please contact your Organizing Department staffer to get on this list or to communicate with other leaders.
Cool idea: Jordan Hiller in Portland and Shelly Wong in the East Bay will be doing a friendly July 26 Weekend of Action phonebank competition with prizes/bragging rights for most attendees, most dials, and best dial efficiency!
5. SDAN UPDATES – FRIENDRAISING STUDY RECRUITING NOW
SDAN is running a full study version of the friendraising pilot we ran in 2019. Friendraising, where people fundraise money from their family, friends, and acquaintances, is an incredibly effective fundraising strategy. In order to continue to study friendraising, we are asking SDP teams to enroll their team in the study and actively recruit folks from their team to participate. We will create a leaderboard for the study that allows teams to get excited about how much they are raising and to foster a little friendly competition among participating teams.
We need at least 10 teams to participate to make this study a success. Please consider joining us! Email Mallory with the subject line “Friendraising study” to get more information and to sign up!
6. TECH SECURITY UPDATE
There seems to be a new hack covered in the news every day. As a progressive organization with a national profile, we are targets. Please be especially vigilant about clicking on links in emails. If you do not recognize the sender or if the content of the email seems suspicious, do not click on the link. Remember that sometimes the email will come from someone you know. If you’re not expecting an email from this person, do not click. Feel free to reach out to Cat if you are not sure.
We have seen an increase within our volunteer email list, and in the progressive community as a whole, where users have clicked on a link and installed a virus. Protect yourself and our community by making sure you use unique, strong passwords for all applications and by deleting suspicious emails. Read our Security Best Practices for more information.
7. SLAY THE DRAGON RECORDING
On Wednesday, Sister District hosted a Slay The Dragon Panel Discussion and Fundraiser for Sister District Candidates with VA Del. and candidate for Governor Jennifer Carroll Foy, Dave Daley (Ratf**ked and Unrigged), Sam Wang (Princeton Gerrymandering Project), Meaghan Winter (All Politics is Local), and moderated by me! If you weren’t able to attend, check out the recording, and here’s a recap Tweet you can share 😊
8. NEW CONTENT
Share these pages and blog posts with volunteers in your emails and on social media. We’re also always looking for writers—let us know if you’re interested in contributing by writing a post!

6. VOLUNTEER LEADER CALL – NOTES & RECORDING
Breakout Room Roulette with Staff and Leaders + Recruiting Workshop
As we round the corner toward 100 days from election day, we spent half of yesterday’s call workshoping recruitment strategies and messaging and the other half hanging out and talking shop! We did two rounds of breakout rooms to share what’s working and swap ideas in smaller groups. We also celebrated some of the really outstanding work we’ve done already this spring. Check out the notes and recording.
Handout: 4 Recruitment Recs Right Now
Monthly Volunteer Leader Calls occur on the third Thursday of each month at 5pm PT / 8pm ET. Register here. Add these calls to your Google Calendar or Outlook. Calls are open to all District Captains and Affiliate leaders; these are recorded. Find past recordings in the Resource Library.
10. ICYMI: HQ COMMS SURVEY
Please take our anonymous survey! It’s super quick, and extremely helpful for letting us know how to improve. It asks what you think about this HQL Update, as well as other communications from HQ.
11. ICYMI: METRICS DASHBOARD – NEW SYNC W/ TEAM SPREADSHEETS
Thank you to the 22 teams and affiliates participating in the Metrics Dashboard Program! This program is an easy way for you to track your group’s progress, as well as to see how other teams are doing. To participate, just visit the last tab of the Cumulative Dashboard, find your group’s dashboard, and request to edit it. (if you don’t see your team listed, just send me a note.)
And ICYMI: We can now sync your Team Spreadsheet phonebanking totals to your Team Dashboard. While this won’t capture the week-by-week data that the Dashboard is designed for, the benefit is that you only have to enter your phonebanking data in one place: your Team SS! If you’re interested in getting this set up, please reach out to me.
12. RESOURCE LIBRARY CORNER – WEEKENDS OF ACTION
For handy links, explainers, and everything else, check out our Resource Library. Each issue, we’re highlighting a different resource.
This week, we’re highlighting our updated Weekends Of Action section under Organizing. Weekends of Action kickoff next week with 100 Days till the Election! Access your WoA Guide, Social Shares, and Recruiting and Event Building Materials.
