HQ Liaisons,

I know you’re very, very busy so I’ll keep this intro short. Keep reading for guidance on how to get the word out about GOTV, details on how to celebrate your team by joining the SD Roll Call at our Election Night Party, and then—if it becomes necessary—getting ready to protect the results.

You’re all amazing. We’re going to make it through to the other side of this thing. Thank you, and I’m sending all of my love and gratitude.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. ICYMI: FUNDRAISING DEADLINE – TUE. 10/27

The fundraising deadline for ALL Sister District candidates will be one week before the election, on Tuesday 10/27 at 11:59 ET. All ActBlue fundraising links will be shut off at this time, so please plan accordingly.

  1. ELECTION NIGHT TRACKER

We have created an Election Night Tracker where we will be sharing the latest official election results as we receive them on Election Night. We will be updating the tracker at least twice an hour from 5-8 PT / 8-11 ET.

  1. ELECTION NIGHT TEXTS

We’ll be texting out updates about each of our candidates on Election Night! Text NOV3 to (833) 602-8124 to opt in!

  1. JOIN THE SD ROLL CALL!

And now for something completely different—calling all teams and affiliates who want to take part in our SD Roll Call!

Our Election Night Party (see below) will feature the first ever Sister District Roll Call, inspired by the DNC Roll Call that highlighted the diversity of Democrats from across the country.

This is a bit of an experiment, and with your help, it will be fun and sweet and just the right amount of silly. Here is the idea:

  • Every team/affiliate will have 45-60 seconds to show off their team spirit.
  • Coordinate with your team/affiliate to designate one or more people to give a little intro to your team and say who they supported this year. For example, the script might say something like, “We are SDSF and we are more than lattes and tech! We made ____ calls this year, raised $____. We were proud to support Felicia French and Coral Evans running to flip Arizona, and Celina Montoya and Joanna Cattanach to flip Texas!”
  • Get creative! Use locally themed virtual backgrounds, or bring props and costumes into the mix. You can have one person do the whole thing, or share the speaking roles across several people.

If you want to participate, please fill out this super quick form, and plan to have anyone participating join the party by 5:30 PT / 7:30 CT / 8:30 ET (RSVP info below). I’ll circulate a schedule in advance to participants.

This should be super fun—come one, come all! And shout out to Bonnie in SD EUG for this awesome idea 🎉

EVENTS

  1. ELECTION NIGHT PARTY – TUE. 11/3

Come party with us on Election Night, 4-8pm PT / 6-10pm CT / 7-11pm ET! It will be open house style, and you can drop by any time, or leave us on in the background. We’ll be providing election results updates throughout the night.

We will also feature special guests, including Sister District alum and current candidate for Virginia governor, Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy at 5 PT / 7 CT / 8 ET! Plus much-needed Breath Breaks led by a professional yoga teacher, a super fun live musical performance, and more!

And if you’re planning your own party for your team, check out our Election Night Do’s and Don’ts.

  1. PROTECT THE RESULTS – WED. 11/4

No matter what happens, we will have so much to celebrate on Election Night, and it will be all because of you.

We also know that our work does not exist in a vacuum. To prepare for the possibility that Trump does not accept the results of the election, Sister District is part of the Protect The Results coalition, which has hundreds of events ready to activate if necessary, tentatively scheduled for the day after the election, Wednesday, November 4 at 5pm local time.

Please use this unique Sister District link to find a local event near you and be ready to take action. Feel free to share this with your volunteers.

  1. FINAL VOLUNTEER LEADER CALL – RECAP

Thank you for an amazing year of Volunteer Leader Calls! Our last call of the 2020 election cycle included remarks from Lala and Rita, a great discussion of final tips and tweaks for phonebanking, and concluded with reflections on teams’ creativity and fortitude this cycle. Notes, including a link to the recording, here. Past call recordings and notes can be accessed via the Resource Library.

RESOURCES

  1. NOVEMBER TALKING POINTS MEMO

The November Talking Points Memo is here! Learn more about our recommendations for debate, Supreme Court, and Election Night messaging. You can also find GOTV resources and our Election Night Watch Party recommendations.

  1. PRO TIP: SEND REMINDER TEXTS TO PHONEBANKERS

“Personally contacting volunteers by text or phone more than doubled RSVP and attendance rates over sending just emails.” —Call Your Girlfriend blog post by SDAN

Want to reduce flake rate at your final phonebanks? Send reminder texts to registrants the morning of each event! Sample message below—and don’t hesitate to ask Organizing Department staff if you want help sending these out! We can set up a Hustle campaign for you.

Hi there! It’s Neal from Sister District, looking forward to calling NC voters with you today at 1pm ET. Zoom link to join and prep info was sent by email after you registered, but let me know if you want me to resend. Thank you! See you soon!

  1. RESOURCE LIBRARY CORNER – GOTV HUB

We’re interrupting our regularly scheduled RL Corner to highlight you a new resource on the website, our GOTV Hub. Learn everything you need to know about getting out the vote this year!

  1. BONUS: SPECIAL GUESTS GALORE!

All year long, we’ve been blown away by the resourcefulness of all of you in bringing in special guests to help our cause. It’s reached a fever pitch, and I couldn’t help but share a few highlights:

This Sunday 10/25 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET, Sister District Portland is hosting its final virtual game night. More than a dozen comedians will be joining to play the hilarious game Quiplash to benefit six of our top priority candidates. These folks have credentials from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Whose Line Is It Anyway, Brockmire, and much more. If you’d like to share this with your team, just add this template to your Mailchimp and modify it to fit your needs. And here’s a Tweet with a link to the Zoom registration.

Also on Sunday 10/25 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET, Sister District Boston is hosting a fundraiser to benefit a slate of organizations building Black electoral power. I’ll be there to share updates from what these partners are up to in this final stretch, and W. Mondale Robinson, founder of the Black Male Voter Project will be a special guest speaker.

Plus, HQ is running a series of phonebanks every day from now through Election Day, and we’re thrilled to have some very talented folks joining us, including:

  • Sat 10/24 w/ Tim Heidecker, best known as one half of the comedy duo Tim & Eric
  • Mon 10/26 w/ Ann Friedman, writer and Call Your Girlfriend podcast host
  • Tue 10/27 at 3pm PT / 6pm ET w/ Nick Thune, stand-up comedian who has “been on TV a lot and won each time”
  • Weds 10/28 1:30pm PT / 4:30pm ET w/ David Cross, comedian, actor (Arrested Development), writer and returning phonebanker!
  • Sat 10/31 1:30pm PT / 4:30pm ET w/ Ryan Vasquez, Broadway cast member of Hamilton and Founder of Swing From Home

We know that you’re all working hard on your final fundraising efforts and phonebank parties, so don’t forget to let us know if you want us to promote you on social, or tag us @sister_district!
