HQ Liaisons,

First and foremost, we hope that all of you are staying safe and as sane as possible. Check out our January Talking Points Memo for guidance and tips on how to talk about the incredible news about flipping the Senate (thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated!), today’s horrifying developments in DC, and our hot-off-the presses 2020 Impact Report.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. 2020 IMPACT REPORT

The 2020 Impact Report is here! This report summarizes our achievements in field and fundraising during the 2020 cycle, discusses the growth of our programs and volunteer teams/infrastructure, and the experiences/outcomes for the campaigns we supported. We’ll send an email to our full list about the Impact Report soon, but please feel free to start sharing this with your volunteers.

Huge shout out to Gaby, Mallory, and Sarah on our team who made this report happen, and our eternal gratitude to all of you leaders for your incredible work.

  1. SHARE YOUR 2020 ORGANIZING STORIES

As we prepare materials and update our Resource Library and blog for 2021, we want to share your 2020 stories with the rest of the community! There are two types of content we’re looking for: (1) Testimonial/Personal Narrative, in which you might describe, say, what it was like to be a phonebanker (example), how you successfully encouraged friends to get involved, or anything special you want to share; (2) Team Case Study, in which you might tell the story of how your team pulled off a particular event or describe something you learned or did in 2020 that could be useful for other leaders to consider (example). Please email neal@sisterdistrict.com with your idea!

EVENTS

  1. BIPOC HAPPY HOUR – THU. 1/7

Sister District recognizes that in order to build a truly inclusive organization, it is critically important to create safe spaces for Black, Indigenous, and people of color to connect with each other. In furtherance of this goal, Sister District hosts monthly BIPOC volunteer happy hours through Zoom on the first Thursday of each month.

Our next happy hour will be on Thursday, January 7 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET. We’ll take time to connect and discuss how we can make this time as valuable as possible for our BIPOC volunteers.

Please register here, and add these calls to your Google Calendar or Outlook. If you identify as BIPOC, we hope that you’ll join us! Feel free to share this with fellow leaders and volunteers.

  1. POLITICAL DIRECTOR CALL – TUE. 1/12

Our first Political Director Call of 2021 will be on Tuesday, January 12 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET.

Register for the Political Director calls here. Add these calls to your Google Calendar or Outlook. These calls will continue to be held on the second Tuesday of each month. They are open to all leaders of teams and affiliates and are NOT recorded.

  1. VOLUNTEER LEADER CALL – THU. 1/21

Our first Volunteer Leader Call of 2021 will be on Thursday, January 21 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET. Please invite any active 2020 volunteers you’d like to encourage to be more involved as organizers of your team!

Register for the Volunteer Leader Calls here. Add these calls to your Google Calendar or Outlook. These calls will continue to be held on the third Thursday of each month. They are open to all leaders of teams and affiliates and are recorded. Find past recordings and notes in the Resource Library.

  1. ANTI-OPPRESSION & RACIAL EQUITY TRAINING – MON. 1/25

Our partners at AORTA will be hosting an anti-oppression and racial equity training for Sister District leaders on Monday, January 25 at 1pm PT / 4pm ET. The 2-hour training will be highly interactive, and you’ll need to access Zoom via a computer (not mobile). The goal is to help deepen your fluency with anti-racism, and set you up to translate it into your work at Sister District.

If you’re interested, please register here.

In order to provide a high-quality training experience, we are limiting each session to 30 people. If you cannot make this session, AORTA will be holding another identical session in mid-February, exact date to be announced in January. If there is surplus demand, then we will add additional trainings.

  1. SD SUMMIT – SAT. & SUN. 2/6 & 2/7

Sister District is thrilled to invite you to the fourth annual Sister District Summit on Saturday and Sunday, February 6 and 7! Join our staff and volunteers from around the country as we celebrate our successes, learn from each other, and strategize for 2021 and 2022. Volunteers and leaders from both teams and affiliates are welcome.

We’re thrilled to announce our keynote speaker, progressive communications expert Anat Shenker-Osorio. We’ll also feature conversations with Sister District alumni and campaign staff, Co-Executive Director of New Virginia Majority Tram Nguyen, and many more! More details on our website!

Attendees will have the option to choose which sessions they want to attend, and are not obligated to attend every session (though we hope you will!). Learn more, and register here!
