As you know, I’m passionate about helping Democrats take power in state legislatures. Dems took control of the VA legislature in 2019, put the pedal to the metal to pass progress policy, and have modeled for the nation the good that happens when we take power.
But there are elections this year in VA and the GOP can take control back of the House of Delegates. If they do, not only will it halt progress in the state, but as we head into the 2022 midterms, we’ll be saddled with the narrative that Dems lost the first electoral contest of the post-Trump era. Not good.
The GOP is targeting Delegate Alex Askew in his first reelection campaign. Early Voting begins in VA Sept 17. As you know, I’m passionate about advancing progressive policy & power in state legislatures. As our current voting rights crisis illustrates, that mission is critically urgent. We’re horrified by what the GOP is doing in Arizona, but how do we fight back?
Georgia flipped blue in 2020 in large part because of successful community organizing year after year by Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight and other organizations, often led by women and people of color. Are there such organizations in Arizona? You bet. And they need our help.
Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA) and Rural Arizona Action (RAZA) are at the center of the fight to take over control of the Arizona House, beat GOP Governor Ducey, reelect Senator Kelly, and beat the Trump-endorsed candidate for Secretary of State this November. RAZA in particular has an ambitious goal of hiring 200 canvassers and organizers, registering 5,000 new voters, and knocking on 100,000 doors in 2022.
