In 2022, along with her community, Betsy defeated the Republican representative in her district, which was one of the crucial victories that gave Democrats a majority in the Michigan House. In Lansing, she has fought to expand access to health care, including abortion, extend non-discrimnation protections for the LGBTQ community, and invested millions in mental health services for students.
