Trump Issues Presidential Memorandum Targeting ActBlue, Threatening Grassroots Political Fundraising
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a direct attack on democracy and democratic infrastructure, Donald Trump has signed a presidential memorandum targeting ActBlue, the digital platform that powers fundraising for Democratic candidates and grassroots organizations nationwide.
Sister District, a grassroots organization electing Democrats to state legislatures, warns this is not just a strike against a fundraising platform — but a calculated attack on democratic participation, political dissent, and the infrastructure that allows everyday people to take part in the political process.
“ActBlue is the backbone of progressive grassroots fundraising. 28 million Americans use it to support candidates who share their values and to challenge the influence of billionaires and special interests in our elections,” said Sarah Curmi, Sister District Executive Director. “This presidential memorandum is an authoritarian power grab attempting to silence small donors and consolidating influence among the ultra-wealthy.”
Since 2016, Sister District has raised over $27 million with an average candidate donation of under $40 last year, mobilized more than 110,000 grassroots volunteers nationwide, and have helped win 146 state races — all powered by ActBlue’s donor infrastructure.
Sister District stands with ActBlue and will continue to mobilize our robust grassroots community to fuel state legislative candidates from all walks of life. This is a defining moment, and supporters are being called to treat this attack as a galvanizing call to action and a chance to demonstrate organized resistance.
“Trump wants to rattle us, to create confusion, to make us panic. But we know better,” said Sarah Curmi. “We’re staying focused, standing with our partners at ActBlue, and sharing real-time recommendations with our state legislative networks. This memorandum will not slow our movement down.”
